What is it? A chemical that is similar, but not identical, to another chemical. For example, thioproline is an analog of the amino acid proline, and azaguanine is an analog of the nucleotide guanine. Certain analogs are toxic and can be used to select for mutants that affect the synthesis or metabolism of the corresponding compound.
